Never, never, never stop learning. Education did not end when you finished school. To continue to grow, you must continue to learn. If you stop learning, you stop growing and as a matter of fact, your mind will start to atrophy, just as an unused muscle would.
Pick a subject that you want to learn about and study it, such as:
– Knitting
– Woodworking
– Genealogy
OR,
– Starting your own business
Today, education doesn’t have to just come from a college and getting a degree. As a matter of fact, everyone and their brother has a degree now, so you need to do something different. But this education is more about expanding YOU and your knowledge base about things YOU love.
Between the Internet, the library, your local community college or technical school, and countless other resources, you can learn about ANY subject, AND meet others who are interested in the same things at the same time!
I think there used to be a public service announcement on PBS that said “The more you know, the more you grow” How true! I even found something written by one of the smartest and wisest men ever, Dr Seuss-
Share 3 subjects with us that you would like to learn about!

So true Bernice!
I would love to learn Italian! I want to go back and would love to be able to speak fluently. I should look for a discounted Rosetta Stone!
I could save a lot of time if I learned more about html and codes for blogging!
and I’m always trying to learn how to meditate more effectively.
Thanks for the post… now to craigslist!
I am with you on the html stuff! I spent over an hour yesterday AFTER I had written my post trying to fix the formatting! Somehow I messed it up when I inserted my pictures !
Our local community college has a class on basic website building and html. In GA because of the lottery, I can go to a public tech school for free and I can do it online, so I think I may register for the fall! Think of all the time it will save me in the long run!
I’m with Barbara, I’d love to learn Italian – I have a cool software we bought that has like 33 languages to learn on it…but we haven’t cracked the box open yet (we’ve had it for 2 years at least)- what’s up wit dat?
would also love to learn more about baking
and would love to learn to sew 🙂
Oh, I would love to learn Italian too! I have an Italian heritage and want to go to Italy in the future!
I am currently reading Eat, Pray, Love and her first stop is Italy. One of the first things she did was get a language tutor, a handsome young man, to teach her Italian!
I would love to learn to speak French, study the Victorian Era and learn more about wine. I haven’t thought about what I’d like to do instead of what I have to do in a long time! Thanks for this post … 🙂
Kathryn,
The victorian era was such a cool time! And I would like to learn more about wine too. I only recently started drinking it, and I feel so ignorant when I am trying to order! My daughter knows so much more about wine than I do! She has actually started making and selling a line of wine jellies. She is doing really well and they taste awesome! She has just got a facebook fan page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lawrenceville-GA/Saucy-Spirits/125590100821196
Thanks for coming by!
I would just like to know how to put photo’s in my posts!
Hi Doreen! I just sent you an email with some info about where you can find help on that!
Great Post Bernice….Ditto on the HTML and Codes for Blogging. I would also like to learn more about our US History since I thought it wasn’t important when I was in High School… LOL. I also started going back to school to be a Court Reporter but I had to put it on hold for a bit but I plan on going back. Loved all the stuff I learned there.
I love history. We homeschooled our kids for 8 years and we did a lot of history, lol! We not only read the textbooks, but read historical fiction and watched relevant movies as well.
Look around and find the musical 1776. It is a little old fashioned, but does a great job of telling of the lives of the signers of the declaration of independence! I just checked, amazon has it for download, but you can’t just rent for a buck or 2, you gotta buy for 9.99. See if your library has it, mine did!
I’m starting hunting course next week. Next month, I’m participating my very first elk hunt. 🙂
I’d love to do handicrafts – take sewing and woodworking classes – but that much free time is currently not possible as I’m a working mom of a small child. Those two would really come in handy though – there are both clothes and household items (like a bed for our soon-to-be-2-year-old) that we’d need and that would be cool to have home-made.
I would love to learn how to use photo editing software more effectively. I get better every time I try, but I’m ready to break out of my “floating logo” comfort zone into something with more pizazz.
I’d also like to learn how to knit garments, not just pretty scarves.
But most of all, I’d love to learn how to distill essential oils for the mixing into custom fragrances.
